you tricky little month, always bringing a whirlwind of emotions my way! Last
year, I bid farewell to Mom (can you believe it's been a whole year
already?), and 12 years ago, I lost my dear hubby. So, you see, February's
like an emotional rollercoaster for me. And don't even get me started on
Valentine's Day... SMH! Honestly, I usually treat it like any other day. Not
that I'm anti-love or anything, just not big on the whole shebang. But hey, I
reckon some of you can relate, right?<o:p></o:p></span></p><p class="MsoNormal"><span style="color: #2b00fe; font-family: arial;">Now, let's
rewind to October through January, when work had me doing the hustle and
bustle, clocking in those 70-plus-hour weeks! Phew! But amidst the chaos, I
snuck in some "me" time, working on some projects. Tell me,
who else finds solace in quilting and embroidery? There's just something
about the rhythm of needle and thread that soothes the soul, am I right?<o:p></o:p></span></p><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiFlbzum1d3fj3R5R-tef5-kIIqo2dttiMZRnrYYKZnAv_YaJwoDfeBS4uSYo7ic3CqFqauXJVhq9pHK6AagjesNU83z3xKYF8oLId1CtZyG3L2q3mxMI1utNPXYUAlFxKgKqdh3omBawntNyW1rBkLhnno8jSs623bg6qSYgKcHd5thm6MJw1c5hmZn1Ys/s4032/Bunny%20and%20girl.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="4032" data-original-width="3024" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiFlbzum1d3fj3R5R-tef5-kIIqo2dttiMZRnrYYKZnAv_YaJwoDfeBS4uSYo7ic3CqFqauXJVhq9pHK6AagjesNU83z3xKYF8oLId1CtZyG3L2q3mxMI1utNPXYUAlFxKgKqdh3omBawntNyW1rBkLhnno8jSs623bg6qSYgKcHd5thm6MJw1c5hmZn1Ys/s320/Bunny%20and%20girl.jpg" width="240" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><span style="color: #2b00fe; font-family: arial;">I finished a springtime embroidery piece (ignore the cat hair). Off work for the weekend and time to quilt and embroider.</span></p><p><span style="color: #2b00fe; font-family: arial;">I'm off to Denver in a couple of weeks for a small family reunion with my cousins. I'm so excited to be traveling somewhere again and excited to see my cousins. I haven't seen them for several years. I had a trip planned and then COVID hit, so it's been a while. I also can't wait to go to a cooler climate! It's still a million degrees here in the Lone Star State and I'm waiting for summer to be done with. Maybe next month? Who knows?</span></p><p><span style="color: #2b00fe; font-family: arial;">I have finished a quilt top (photos soon) and started on an autumn quilt 🍁(<i>did I mention that I'm tired of summer?</i>). I cut a few of the pieces wrong and had to order more fabric, so I'm waiting on that (<i>not patiently</i>) to come in. Yes, even after all these years of quilting, I still manage to screw up! But once the new fabric arrives, I can finish my autumn quilt and hang it up (<i>because I'm claiming it as my own</i>).</span></p><p><span style="color: #2b00fe; font-family: arial;">I've also been embroidering like a mad woman trying to get a few things for Christmas 🎄 gifts done (<i>photos below</i>). One of the kits I really enjoyed, while the other kit was on fabric that I really did not like at all. I had to switch to a smaller needle on that one and threading a small needle was quite frustrating. My eyes are better, but apparently not good enough to thread small needles anymore. Anyway, I finished that one and decided it will get incorporated into a quilt or a quilted wall hanging at least.</span></p><p><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjw_ZVt0gXS2QXLsJlqvN2OXTbc1Xk7W2cp3m2nrqx-GBZHz-dgf0gH7Qfon71bRd5gIPuS6RDvMA93aQ9ejMxR3bXCpWTZBPrM8F6gfZUqkhiMnu0JPhqBBTIkZdkDvbHzCIJAcGsRkiX3yUpWnGHFDyU6J-mcw4IBH61fqJ1V_EG8mQtE8Vs8sr_qNGBZ/s3348/Mushrooms.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2511" data-original-width="3348" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjw_ZVt0gXS2QXLsJlqvN2OXTbc1Xk7W2cp3m2nrqx-GBZHz-dgf0gH7Qfon71bRd5gIPuS6RDvMA93aQ9ejMxR3bXCpWTZBPrM8F6gfZUqkhiMnu0JPhqBBTIkZdkDvbHzCIJAcGsRkiX3yUpWnGHFDyU6J-mcw4IBH61fqJ1V_EG8mQtE8Vs8sr_qNGBZ/s320/Mushrooms.jpg" width="320" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><span style="color: #2b00fe; font-family: arial;">This is the one with the fabric I did not like.</span></td></tr></tbody></table><br /><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiya3Rhudrz8mflZVbumXb1aVx4n6i2uD5hvlV19t-aRfXMV0xJ-Vd69kEBtjxdBSQHh3XUjPq0N5kmdZTlmLFfErxAEKivpl41Ru2W6Fag3KxSfl9YpP07lw6JrRG00yQSxCoPK9R5p63ZWuwJjhPXPFmhwHFt_8SeNdtJ7W2v9xiMA0oI8RL4npndQfIk/s4032/Mushrooms%202.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="4032" data-original-width="3024" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiya3Rhudrz8mflZVbumXb1aVx4n6i2uD5hvlV19t-aRfXMV0xJ-Vd69kEBtjxdBSQHh3XUjPq0N5kmdZTlmLFfErxAEKivpl41Ru2W6Fag3KxSfl9YpP07lw6JrRG00yQSxCoPK9R5p63ZWuwJjhPXPFmhwHFt_8SeNdtJ7W2v9xiMA0oI8RL4npndQfIk/s320/Mushrooms%202.jpg" width="240" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><span style="color: #2b00fe; font-family: arial;">This kit I really enjoyed working on!</span></td></tr></tbody></table><span style="color: #2b00fe; font-family: arial;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="color: #2b00fe; font-family: arial;">As I mentioned before, I finished a quilt top, which I think turned out pretty well. Is it quilted yet? Why no, it is not. And here's why. When I moved last year, I inadvertently got rid of the giant cardboard I had to baste larger quilts (<i>t</i></span><i style="color: #2b00fe; font-family: arial;">his one is 42 x 60</i><span style="color: #2b00fe; font-family: arial;">) on my bed. So, now I'm looking around 👀 for a large box (</span><i style="color: #2b00fe; font-family: arial;">like water heater or refrigerator size</i><span style="color: #2b00fe; font-family: arial;">) to cut and use or something that will work as well. In the meanwhile, I have nowhere to baste my quilt. I mean, yeah, there is the floor, but if I get down there, I'll never get back up! LOL! 😂 The autumn quilt is much smaller so I shouldn't have an issue basting that one on the dining room table.</span></p><p><span style="color: #2b00fe; font-family: arial;">My middle grandson is turning 8 (!!!😳) next week, so next weekend I'll be at his birthday party. And also Miss Lilly turns 14 (!!!!!😳) next week! I really don't know how she's turning 14 when I feel like she was just born! My oldest daughter just turned 40 and my youngest turned 38...now I really feel old!</span></p><p><span style="color: #2b00fe; font-family: arial;">Well, that's about it for now. I plan on going to some quilt shops in the Denver/Boulder area when I'm there. I should have plenty of time to shop! (<i>Don't tell my wallet!</i>)</span></p><p><span style="color: #2b00fe; font-family: arial;"><b><i>Happy Quilting, Sewing, and Embroidering!</i></b></span></p><p><br /></p><div class="blogger-post-footer"><iframe src="http://rcm.amazon.com/e/cm?t=quiltsquil-20&o=1&p=40&l=ur1&category=beauty&banner=0JP0SDGGHNKE22KJ1P82&f=ifr" width="120" height="60" scrolling="no" border="0" marginwidth="0" style="border:none;" frameborder="0"></iframe></div>Susan Lozanohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03614822081664990971noreply@blogger.com0Dallas, TX, USA32.7766642 -96.7969878999999914.4664303638211535 -131.95323789999998 61.086898036178845 -61.640737899999991tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9169978046655784101.post-5854188192777157522023-08-09T15:13:00.000-07:002023-08-09T15:13:14.869-07:00Another Vacation and Another Quilt<p><span style="color: #2b00fe; font-family: arial;">Hi Folks!</span></p><p><span style="color: #2b00fe; font-family: arial;">You read the blog title right! I took <i>another </i>vacation this summer because I'm all about "me" time. </span></p><p><span style="color: #2b00fe; font-family: arial;">Last month I went to visit a friend in the Aloha state of Hawaii and it was amazing! I'd never been before and I'm so glad I went and was <i>very happy</i> that I got to visit my longtime friend, who I hadn't seen for several years. </span></p><p><span style="color: #2b00fe; font-family: arial;">Note to self - next time I'll pay extra for a direct flight! Yes, it is a very long flight from Texas and it took several days to recover when I returned. Whew!</span></p><p><span style="color: #2b00fe; font-family: arial;">There was a small tropical storm when I was in Hawaii, but all was well and it turned out not to be too bad. It gave my friend and I a chance to stay inside and talk and drink wine...of course. </span></p><p><span style="color: #2b00fe; font-family: arial;">I shopped and shopped but unfortunately didn't make it to any of the fabric stores that I had planned on visiting. Next time! I did pay a visit to the <a href="https://www.pearl-factory.com/pages/jewelry-store-locations-outrigger-waikiki-328" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Pearl Factory</a> where I got to pick out oysters and see what pearls were inside. Of course, several pieces of jewelry later, I had to stop myself! It was a lot of fun and I would definitely do it again.</span></p><p><span style="color: #2b00fe; font-family: arial;">I went on a dinner cruise on the <a href="https://starofhonolulu.com/" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Star of Honolulu</a> by myself (it was wonderful) and on a tour of <a href="https://www.kualoa.com/" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Kualoa Ranch</a> where they film a lot of movies (Jurassic World, Jurassic Park, 50 First Dates) and shows (Lost, Magnum PI). Both were affordable excursions and well worth it! I also treated myself to a massage. </span><span style="color: #2b00fe; font-family: arial;">If you've never been to the islands, </span><i style="color: #2b00fe; font-family: arial;">just go</i><span style="color: #2b00fe; Whew! And <b>next week</b> I'm going on <b><i>vacation </i></b>for the first time since before COVID! </span></p><p><span style="color: #2b00fe; font-family: arial;">I'm so excited because: <b>1</b>) I'll be off work <b>2</b>) I'm going to the <a href="https://www.americanquilter.com/quiltweek/paducah-2023" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">AQS Quilt Show</a> in Paducah, Kentucky!!! (<i>Can you hear me screaming!</i>) </span></p><p><span style="color: #2b00fe; font-family: arial;">I've never been to this quilt show before and I'm thrilled that I will be going. I've wanted to go for many, many years but haven't had the opportunity. So, a friend of mine, who is actually building a house in Kentucky, and I are driving out for a fun-filled week of beautiful quilts and scenery. I have traveled to Kentucky before and I know it's beautiful out there. I also found out that another quilting friend of mine and her sister will be there. I always look forward to seeing her at quilt shows and missed her at the Dallas Quilt Show this year.</span></p><p><span style="color: #2b00fe; font-family: arial;">After losing my mom in February, and renovating my kitchen (<i>yes, it's done!</i>) I need this break to get away from my life for a minute. I don't know what my kitty, Miss Tilly, will think of me being gone and ignoring her for a week, but I'm sure she'll get over it. Don't worry, my daughter will be giving her plenty of treats while I'm away!</span></p><p><span style="color: #2b00fe; font-family: arial;">Speaking of my kitchen, here are some before and after photos. You can see <i>why </i>it needed redoing! Also, the corner banquette is my favorite new spot in the house now. I absolutely love it! My kitchen even feels <i>bigger </i>now (<i>I mean...it's not, but it sure does feel like it!</i>).</span></p><p><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhPL3-NKI01GAetBuU84XG5ajCK14zqmFNlFm_aEkdUzF13dgWFkYdDyhw_l95Cik0RxEFoVLghM_iXHHSMc4FWXrwOWz3PL7BhM4wJXl0kAJro9EHALhrg2pnD0gchR6ghYyu9FyjJWhD4dxIuxg70YWNkexCXikw3NaHMmu3FAd3ZrqI1Nv3Z8D8Muw/s2048/339742011_6290239427688843_5187031633908595918_n.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1536" data-original-width="2048" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhPL3-NKI01GAetBuU84XG5ajCK14zqmFNlFm_aEkdUzF13dgWFkYdDyhw_l95Cik0RxEFoVLghM_iXHHSMc4FWXrwOWz3PL7BhM4wJXl0kAJro9EHALhrg2pnD0gchR6ghYyu9FyjJWhD4dxIuxg70YWNkexCXikw3NaHMmu3FAd3ZrqI1Nv3Z8D8Muw/s320/339742011_6290239427688843_5187031633908595918_n.jpg" width="320" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><span style="color: #2b00fe; font-family: arial;"><b>Before</b></span></td></tr></tbody></table><br /><span style="color: #2b00fe; font-family: arial;"><br /></span></p><p><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEifYuulEYXoBzUMuu6RJFNuSvDqXTJ4Q0k8o_Cfeu84ygV1emZuwrL5jK-J23wjOwDiL9EbjE9R7OxdZ78WQAveD1Vzxo0reKa2d0C2tZbVWR8U2i3gjJ4bIjkCm5e2FP15-AszcD8mY6Dt5kTTZH1DGhXFaLiNU4sV51Us3CVbM1eD5SSnGk6e9w4Tsw/s2048/339500025_241918368236814_5713707203057753809_n.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1536" data-original-width="2048" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEifYuulEYXoBzUMuu6RJFNuSvDqXTJ4Q0k8o_Cfeu84ygV1emZuwrL5jK-J23wjOwDiL9EbjE9R7OxdZ78WQAveD1Vzxo0reKa2d0C2tZbVWR8U2i3gjJ4bIjkCm5e2FP15-AszcD8mY6Dt5kTTZH1DGhXFaLiNU4sV51Us3CVbM1eD5SSnGk6e9w4Tsw/s320/339500025_241918368236814_5713707203057753809_n.jpg" width="320" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><b><span style="color: #2b00fe; font-family: arial;">After</span></b></td></tr></tbody></table><br /></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><br /><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi0Hk3QDmj1wspdm8ElPg63GIpWFvfMN6VRl4OSdJIKcGbxD2XTb7LZ3I9uv-36-Ig9eKCa7KduISDuFNmHPXwMrWI9pf--koEx4f62DYxzYAQPzcbzPhkKQvvMkJyccNDgVgVC54b6ZTRjQhXtwxNztA4nyDQaxgJ32FvzxrOxkNT1osNUWahMXVHsHA/s2048/339873682_1237810310498971_5261680868191207776_n.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1536" data-original-width="2048" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi0Hk3QDmj1wspdm8ElPg63GIpWFvfMN6VRl4OSdJIKcGbxD2XTb7LZ3I9uv-36-Ig9eKCa7KduISDuFNmHPXwMrWI9pf--koEx4f62DYxzYAQPzcbzPhkKQvvMkJyccNDgVgVC54b6ZTRjQhXtwxNztA4nyDQaxgJ32FvzxrOxkNT1osNUWahMXVHsHA/s320/339873682_1237810310498971_5261680868191207776_n.jpg" width="320" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><span style="color: #2b00fe; font-family: arial;"><b>My favorite spot!</b></span></td></tr></tbody></table><br /><span style="color: #2b00fe; font-family: arial;">Well, I'm off to do laundry to get ready for my travels! February is <b>not</b> a great month for me to begin with, since it's the month my dear husband passed away. Then sadly my mom passed away a few weeks ago in February, so doubly hard for me. </span></p><p><span style="color: #2b00fe; font-family: arial;">I miss my mom. She was 98, almost 99, years old. But it doesn't matter how old your mom is, she's always your mom. I miss her dry sense of humor! Mom had Alzheimer's but always kept her very dry sense of humor, which I loved...and I may or may not have the same sense of humor (<i>okay, I do</i>)! She lived her last 10 years in a nursing home nearby and was well taken care of (<i>which is saying something</i>). I visited her often and whenever I attended quilt shows would take lots of photos and show them to her. She really enjoyed looking at all the pretty quilt photos. My love of quilting and embroidery came from her mother, my grandmother, who was a talented quilter and embroiderer. I'm a bit lost without my mom.</span></p><p><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj2EQ8j3sgdpCsZtLTTSttpmlzXtYMDucO4nHtgpv60lo8AauSqUx59TzOJ5pPNm5jwl9bxjwOC58-XtKf83QXjVJyzbssuTo_hxAz_9BcHXwpZXOhTsyIncTSRDXTP2sRC-KOdbKYf62InuRni3blKaD9HBtO5-1HSqrLentyTJ5v_ymXlycRfY4DWFQ/s2165/IMG_2310.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2165" data-original-width="2053" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj2EQ8j3sgdpCsZtLTTSttpmlzXtYMDucO4nHtgpv60lo8AauSqUx59TzOJ5pPNm5jwl9bxjwOC58-XtKf83QXjVJyzbssuTo_hxAz_9BcHXwpZXOhTsyIncTSRDXTP2sRC-KOdbKYf62InuRni3blKaD9HBtO5-1HSqrLentyTJ5v_ymXlycRfY4DWFQ/s320/IMG_2310.JPG" width="303" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><span style="color: #2b00fe; font-family: arial;"><b>My sweet mom. Love you, Mom!</b></span></td></tr></tbody></table><span style="color: #2b00fe; font-family: arial;">I arranged her celebration of life and we had that last weekend. I'm grieving but moving forward with a lot of things, like my kitchen renovation, which is nearly done! I've been without a kitchen for a month now and I will be excited to get my kitchen back next week! So, to say February was a difficult month is an understatement! Good riddance to February and hello spring! I need some flowers and light in my life right now.</span></p><p><span style="color: #2b00fe; font-family: arial;">Speaking of flowers...I'm still (<i>yes, still</i>) working on my spring embroidery piece. Because of the things in my life that happened last month, I didn't work on it as much. And I'm a little afraid of doing the bunny on this piece, mainly because I haven't quite decided on which stitch to use. The pattern indicates thread painting, which I have discovered I love the look of, but really hate doing, so switching it up a bit. I'm considering the turkey work stitch...but not sure yet.</span></p><p><span style="color: #2b00fe; font-family: arial;">I'm also excited that today my oldest granddaughter Lilly (<i>how is she 13 already?</i>)is getting her first sewing machine! I talked with her mom the other day about which one to get for her and she is getting a Brother sewing machine! Personally, I'm on a Janome kick now but used Brother machines for many years. Lilly loves to piece together outfits and wants to sew her own. I can't wait to give her sewing lessons!</span></p><p><span style="color: #2b00fe; font-family: arial;">My sewing room organization got put on hold because of...well, life... but it's getting back on track now. I have a storage unit put together and in the room and just have to take all the fabric out of bins and load up the storage unit (<i>WHEW!</i>). More to come! Once it's done, I'm back to quilting with embroidery in the evenings. I ordered some new fabric (<i>like I need more!</i>) from Keepsake Quilting and it should be here tomorrow. I call it my motivation for finishing my sewing room! HA!</span></p><p><span style="color: #2b00fe; font-family: arial;">Well, that's it for now! I hope Spring is kinder than February was!</span></p><p><span style="color: #2b00fe; font-family: arial;"><b><i>Happy Quilting, Sewing, and Embroidering!</i></b></span></p><p><br /></p><div class="blogger-post-footer"><iframe src="http://rcm.amazon.com/e/cm?t=quiltsquil-20&o=1&p=40&l=ur1&category=beauty&banner=0JP0SDGGHNKE22KJ1P82&f=ifr" width="120" height="60" scrolling="no" border="0" marginwidth="0" style="border:none;" frameborder="0"></iframe></div>Susan Lozanohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03614822081664990971noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9169978046655784101.post-46589669606820647192023-01-03T11:44:00.001-08:002023-01-03T11:44:43.563-08:00Christmas is a Wrap and Happy New Year!<p><span style="color: #2b00fe; font-family: arial;"><i><b>Happy New Year Everyone!</b></i></span></p><p><span style="color: #2b00fe; font-family: arial;">I hope everyone had a <i>great </i>Christmas and is enjoying 2023. I mean, I know it's only day 3 of the new year, but here's to a great year!</span></p><p><span style="color: #2b00fe; font-family: arial;">We had a nice family Christmas on Christmas Eve and then I had Christmas Day dinner at a dear friend's house. I had a quiet week off work and now it's back to the daily grind.</span></p><p><span style="color: #2b00fe; font-family: arial;">I am making progress in organizing my sewing room! Not quite finished yet...but I'll get there! Christmas decorations are all put away and I'm working on purging some stuff (<i>more stuff</i>)out of the house.</span></p><p><span style="color: #2b00fe; font-family: arial;">I did finally <i>finish </i>the embroidery piece I was working on (yay!) and have started a new one with a spring theme (I'll keep you posted). Photos are below. I used some metallic threads for some extra shine in the piece but I'm not quite sure you can see the shiny bits in the photos. Metallic threads are not easy to work with, however, I do <i>love </i>the effect they provide.</span></p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi9V-6Sao_Ihaw3tqeZDqfzBKKNDmuhPMWkOwfd1AJ0u1jfvvgK7yhgsR6jNZBto7KyNczOcRB5QiSTT-FHjbIVf6EfMxKClRwdo-qfmfDHIE7ZbaHcfkLXvCCO30_i84XvQoqfS0eqFfU9kSaIDQxpOyG98NMXZaW9npV8qrr2I_ctnUnpaNxKimnSjg/s4032/IMG_3887.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="4032" data-original-width="3024" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi9V-6Sao_Ihaw3tqeZDqfzBKKNDmuhPMWkOwfd1AJ0u1jfvvgK7yhgsR6jNZBto7KyNczOcRB5QiSTT-FHjbIVf6EfMxKClRwdo-qfmfDHIE7ZbaHcfkLXvCCO30_i84XvQoqfS0eqFfU9kSaIDQxpOyG98NMXZaW9npV8qrr2I_ctnUnpaNxKimnSjg/s320/IMG_3887.jpg" width="240" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhZ9Y3oJ0HzlzVi-W7Wc-RXgEkzITmOCArq8oEbtq706VCzeljoXwGSFRGB7Aqbk5HwYNv88OUjk5td7rbYeXoX3MxUdAkSd8k6D8KX_64aFm6nFpFYSFXxwgqExDt0arVf-hWLjlgpWFxKK3Wa3WrLxIdpWNfQ4TkbDE6Tlh3UYymA0fUGI816M9hDRA/s4032/IMG_3889.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="4032" data-original-width="3024" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhZ9Y3oJ0HzlzVi-W7Wc-RXgEkzITmOCArq8oEbtq706VCzeljoXwGSFRGB7Aqbk5HwYNv88OUjk5td7rbYeXoX3MxUdAkSd8k6D8KX_64aFm6nFpFYSFXxwgqExDt0arVf-hWLjlgpWFxKK3Wa3WrLxIdpWNfQ4TkbDE6Tlh3UYymA0fUGI816M9hDRA/s320/IMG_3889.jpg" width="240" /></a></div><br /><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh8HqNW5GO7cPINDs1o5T-wtm7HxmN9p0J4nclzr0ZxOPiBeMjvtBGv7NDXXVwGGKvnx99hNN6LQq0uieUxsZrDfTPB9Bp4S3LPkJ3ira7DLf0b-hq_h2sBv55C7nj5Y3DW9F-G_2NQhlU3peJS1QhGpFEiBsAkktKAr8jOHXbIMVrnfUjuz5gZ4eCYrA/s4032/IMG_3890.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="4032" data-original-width="3024" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh8HqNW5GO7cPINDs1o5T-wtm7HxmN9p0J4nclzr0ZxOPiBeMjvtBGv7NDXXVwGGKvnx99hNN6LQq0uieUxsZrDfTPB9Bp4S3LPkJ3ira7DLf0b-hq_h2sBv55C7nj5Y3DW9F-G_2NQhlU3peJS1QhGpFEiBsAkktKAr8jOHXbIMVrnfUjuz5gZ4eCYrA/s320/IMG_3890.jpg" width="240" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><span style="color: #2b00fe; font-family: arial;"><b>Latest embroidery piece!</b></span></td></tr></tbody></table><br /><span style="color: #2b00fe; font-family: arial;">The kit is from <a href="https://www.frenchneedle.com/" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">The French Needle</a> and below is a photo of the kit. Guess, I'd better choose which ones to make and get crackin'!</span></p><p><span style="color: #2b00fe; font-family: arial;">I am working on my embroidery piece...<i>still</i>! Not sure it will be ready by Christmas but I get an A for effort, I guess. </span></p><p><span style="color: #2b00fe; font-family: arial;">Next week I'm off work for the whole week and I'm so excited. My plans are 1) get ready for Christmas...wrap presents...send out cards 2) organize my sewing room, which is long past due 3) get another quote for new kitchen cabinets (Monday) 4) finish embroidery piece 5) get some rest. I'm not sure I'll get any or all of that done! I already have babysitting for my grandsons scheduled on Saturday, so one day down. We'll see what happens.</span></p><p><span style="color: #2b00fe; font-family: arial;">My daughter sent a Christmas photo of my grandsons. They've grown so much! My oldest grandson will be 9 in January along with my youngest granddaughter (<i>how are they 9 already! Weren't they just born?!</i>) Geez, time flies!</span></p><p><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgoQipiJXWUgz-DHbHDWajaYn5C5MFVfb7vv3d1IwvPIuXVruZ_dSk9-Id_OyVPOMLWwbDTS819H5JxyN6AM0upVibUdKMtZxuHO20ZnsV2Jkli0bRAQITwFGxQvIC77BG03x6Y0jcOCc8Q6t2IqiM5onsMKNoWk5pFJvqpRafiU8B83XCm5urR1QCEog/s2048/MicrosoftTeams-image.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1366" data-original-width="2048" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgoQipiJXWUgz-DHbHDWajaYn5C5MFVfb7vv3d1IwvPIuXVruZ_dSk9-Id_OyVPOMLWwbDTS819H5JxyN6AM0upVibUdKMtZxuHO20ZnsV2Jkli0bRAQITwFGxQvIC77BG03x6Y0jcOCc8Q6t2IqiM5onsMKNoWk5pFJvqpRafiU8B83XCm5urR1QCEog/s320/MicrosoftTeams-image.png" width="320" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><b><span style="color: #2b00fe; font-family: arial;">My handsome grandsons with Santa!</span></b></td></tr></tbody></table></p><p><span style="color: #2b00fe; font-family: arial;">I also celebrated another spin around the sun last week. Ha! </span></p><p><span style="color: #2b00fe; font-family: arial;">One of the nurses at the surgery center asked me if cataract surgery was a Christmas present to myself. I had to think about that one for a minute, but...um...yeah...I suppose it was! 🎁 So Merry Christmas to me!</span></p><p><span style="color: #2b00fe; font-family: arial;">I woke up to near-freezing temperatures this morning and frost on the ground (<i>I mean...it's Texas, so that's newsworthy</i>). So, it's truly winter here...at least for a few days. LOL! Just wait a minute and the weather will change! Sunday it was 81 degrees, so Texas weather is like a roller coaster most of the time, except in the summer when it's just HOT! 🔥</span></p><p><span style="color: #2b00fe; font-family: arial;">My embroidery piece is coming along, but I have to rest my eyes for a few days at least before I can get back to it. Not to worry, I have more Christmas shopping🤶 to get done and I'm working on a big project at work, so I'm staying busy!</span></p><p><span style="color: #2b00fe; font-family: arial;">Gotta go rest now.</span></p><p><span style="color: #2b00fe; font-family: arial;"><b><i>Happy Sewing, Quilting, and Embroidering!</i></b></span></p><div class="blogger-post-footer"><iframe src="http://rcm.amazon.com/e/cm?t=quiltsquil-20&o=1&p=40&l=ur1&category=beauty&banner=0JP0SDGGHNKE22KJ1P82&f=ifr" width="120" height="60" scrolling="no" border="0" marginwidth="0" style="border:none;" frameborder="0"></iframe></div>Susan Lozanohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03614822081664990971noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9169978046655784101.post-15802219054488836922022-11-29T11:08:00.000-08:002022-11-29T11:08:01.203-08:00Turkey, Surgeries, and Christmas Shopping<p><span style="color: #2b00fe; font-family: arial;">Hey there!</span></p><p><span style="color: #2b00fe; font-family: arial;">I hope everyone had a wonderful and safe Thanksgiving! I know I ate my fair share of turkey and stuffing!🦃 😉</span></p><p><span style="color: #2b00fe; font-family: arial;">Now it's on to Christmas. Speaking of which, did you do any Black Friday or Cyber Monday shopping? I sure did! Trying to get gifts for the kids and grandkids. I found most of the gifts on <a href="http://www.Amazon.com" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Amazon </a>and a few at <a href="http://www.Target.com" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Target</a> and may have bought a few things for myself along the way 😉 I always forget (<i>every single year</i>) just how stressful (<i>and expensive</i>) Christmas shopping is. I still have some shopping left to do, so trying to save up. </span></p><p><span style="color: #2b00fe; font-family: arial;">When I was at the doctor's office last week, I was chatting with one of the nurses who mentioned that she had all of her Christmas shopping done by August! <i>August</i>...I don't even think about Christmas shopping until after Halloween, or even Thanksgiving! I'm curious as to how many people get their Christmas shopping done early 🤔</span></p><p><span style="color: #2b00fe; font-family: arial;">I also had cataract surgery in one eye 👁 and am going in tomorrow to get the other eye done. I am so hoping this will not only improve my vision but also my night vision. Haven't driven at night for quite a while now. Surprisingly, the first surgery was fast and easy (<i>I was quite nervous!</i>), so here's hoping tomorrow's surgery is fast and easy too. </span></p><p><span style="color: #2b00fe; font-family: arial;">My Christmas tree is up! I actually bought a new tree this year (on sale) and put it up the day after Thanksgiving. Now, I'm not normally a tree-putter-upper but decided that since I'm in a new house and I have the kids and grandkids over more often (because...bigger house) that I would go ahead and put up a tree this year. 🎄 So here's a photo of my new tree! (I'm still waiting on some decorations and tree skirt that I ordered...so don't judge the bareness of my tree)</span></p><p><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEha6hZ1S4p5DNCuWhRcndImldJA4OoQEuZzRLoaVwsjvNRlOo_B5FJol33P9sQxalAGGos_k6SIJUvuH0BU__O0HaqcIibb5stbVqkrraPt7iYND4VHp7OLl4Ajme1qo2YmT8RAG3ALtNJECJIi-s8aRVC5BgWOSb_z8GBFrebjWUOzGoj4qHogqbNilw/s3986/IMG_3793.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3986" data-original-width="2290" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEha6hZ1S4p5DNCuWhRcndImldJA4OoQEuZzRLoaVwsjvNRlOo_B5FJol33P9sQxalAGGos_k6SIJUvuH0BU__O0HaqcIibb5stbVqkrraPt7iYND4VHp7OLl4Ajme1qo2YmT8RAG3ALtNJECJIi-s8aRVC5BgWOSb_z8GBFrebjWUOzGoj4qHogqbNilw/s320/IMG_3793.jpg" width="184" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><span style="color: #2b00fe; font-family: arial;"><b>My new Christmas tree!</b></span></td></tr></tbody></table><br /><span style="color: #2b00fe; font-family: arial;">I'm still working on my next embroidery project and hopefully will be finished soon. I'm tired from traveling but had a great time crafting and catching up with my long-time friend, Debbie. </span></p><p><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh4PWa_lNW1st982NmUCUgnzNt0wkZ_zPV24Z_KaaWi9XLkB1_z7zoIjGMTVKkNxyLetZIifQf_AiIcXbNwtphmGr_A7CEJjQH4yPouBra4p1Qfvqh2TQ6SdexRWS-lR2bxPe_dZbfhEyQZF0kyrXWGC3YIaNpPwqx5ugV1sCZokbftRmh7q4FfiZt6tA/s1164/2022-11-15_15-46-59.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1164" data-original-width="1135" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh4PWa_lNW1st982NmUCUgnzNt0wkZ_zPV24Z_KaaWi9XLkB1_z7zoIjGMTVKkNxyLetZIifQf_AiIcXbNwtphmGr_A7CEJjQH4yPouBra4p1Qfvqh2TQ6SdexRWS-lR2bxPe_dZbfhEyQZF0kyrXWGC3YIaNpPwqx5ugV1sCZokbftRmh7q4FfiZt6tA/s320/2022-11-15_15-46-59.jpg" width="312" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><span style="color: #2b00fe; font-family: arial;"><b>Me and Debbie (she made us matching shirts!)</b></span></td></tr></tbody></table><span style="color: #2b00fe; font-family: arial;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="color: #2b00fe; font-family: arial;">It was really great to see Debbie and her daughter and meet her four-year-old granddaughter (even though she wasn't feeling too well 😞). I love going outside and not instantly sweating. And we've finally gotten some rain. Yep, the cooler weather is exciting!</span></p><p><span style="color: #990000; font-family: arial;">Today the <a href="https://www.quilts.com/quilt-festival/quilt-festival-houston/" target="_blank">Houston International Quilt show</a> begins and runs through November 6. Unfortunately, I am unable to attend again this year for various reasons. I've been to this spectacular show a couple of times and I have to say that it's a wonderful, if a bit overwhelming, quilt show. It showcases some of the best of the best quilters on the planet. It's also fun for everyone (husbands and kids included). </span></p><p><span style="color: #990000; font-family: arial;">My late husband took me to the Houston Quilt show twice, years ago, and we both had so much fun. Hubby loved looking at all the art quilts and I had fun shopping. 😃 So many vendors come to the quilt market and show in Houston. It's amazing! </span></p><p><span style="color: #990000; font-family: arial;">If you can't make it to the show (like me) click <a href="https://www.quilts.com/quilt-festival/judged-show-winners/" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">here </a>to see the winning quilts. I am determined to make it back to Houston, if not next year, then the following year (fingers crossed). I mean...I'm not getting any younger! But if you do want to go next year, or the year after, be sure to reserve a hotel (or stay with friends) well in advance...like right now! The hotels book up quickly, especially the ones nearest to the venue.</span></p><p><span style="color: #990000; font-family: arial;">I have never entered a quilt in a quilt show before. I mean...I'd like to I'm just chicken. One day, perhaps I'll be brave enough but until then I just like to look at everyone else's beautiful quilts</span><span style="color: #cc0000; font-family: arial;">.</span></p><p><span style="color: #990000; font-family: arial;">My vacation is next week and I'm excited to be off work for a few days. Plus I'm excited about seeing my long-time friend, who I haven't seen for several years, her daughter, and her little granddaughter (who I haven't met yet). As mentioned in a previous post, we are attending the <a href="https://lizzyanderin.com/event/3rd-annual-hickabillychristmas-live-event/" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Hickabilly Christmas Live</a> event in Chattanooga, Tennessee where we will be crafting up a storm. They do have a virtual option if you are interested in attending without the cost of travel. I'm just calling it "Girls Week"!</span></p><p><span style="color: #990000; font-family: arial;">My latest little embroidery project is nearly complete and I'm anxious to finish it. I'll post photos when it's done.</span></p><p><span style="font-family: arial;"><b><span style="color: #e69138;">Happy November, Quilting, Embroidering, Crafting, and Sewing! </span></b><span style="color: #cc0000;">🍁🍂</span></span></p><div class="blogger-post-footer"><iframe src="http://rcm.amazon.com/e/cm?t=quiltsquil-20&o=1&p=40&l=ur1&category=beauty&banner=0JP0SDGGHNKE22KJ1P82&f=ifr" width="120" height="60" scrolling="no" border="0" marginwidth="0" style="border:none;" frameborder="0"></iframe></div>Susan Lozanohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03614822081664990971noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9169978046655784101.post-77807336926576549232022-10-27T08:56:00.003-07:002022-10-27T09:00:08.921-07:00Las Vegas and Latest Embroidery<p><span style="color: #2b00fe; font-family: arial;">Happy Thursday!</span></p><p><span style="color: #2b00fe; font-family: arial;">It's hard to believe that the end of October is here already! Seems like October just began and Halloween is in a few days. I have a couple of costumes to choose from for a Halloween kids' party on Sunday, so I just have to decide which one to wear. 💀👻</span></p><p><span style="color: #2b00fe; font-family: arial;">I was in Las Vegas for a work conference last week and it was...exhausting! (<i>You thought I was going to say fun</i>.) I mean...it was for <i>work</i>. I'm not a gambler, however, I did play one slot machine...just for the heck of it...and after winning $24, I walked away a winner!💲</span></p><p><span style="color: #2b00fe; font-family: arial;">One thing about Vegas that I discovered is all the walking! Everything seems near enough but then you walk miles to get there. One of the ballrooms in the hotel where the conference was held was a quarter mile of walking each way. Not only do I learn so much about writing at these events, but I also get to meet great people. And since I write fiction in between working, being a Nana, quilting, and embroidering, I'm always excited to go. </span></p><p><span style="color: #2b00fe; font-family: arial;">I actually met an author...cannot remember her name (I'm terrible at names)... at the conference who also quilts and we sat and talked about quilting and shared photos of our quilts for about an hour. I was so excited and so was she! She'd only been quilting for about a year, so she picked my brain about quilt tips. I'm always happy to help out fellow quilters! Needless to say, even at a writing conference, the highlight for me was chatting about quilting. LOL!</span></p><p><span style="color: #2b00fe; font-family: arial;">Next week I'm headed to Las Vegas (first time ever!) on a business trip and then definitely looking forward to actual vacation time in November. I probably won't take any embroidery to Las Vegas but will take it to Tennessee. I honestly need to look for "airplane" scissors so I can sit and embroider on the plane. Any suggestions? I've been meaning to search for some but have been way too busy.</span></p><p><span style="color: #2b00fe; font-family: arial;">The weather in Texas is finally starting to cool some (well, today it's 91 out) and I was able to spend some time outside with my youngest daughter yesterday. We made some bird feeders out of toilet paper rolls, peanut butter, string, and birdseed and hung them up in the trees. </span></p><p><span style="color: #2b00fe; font-family: arial;">This was a fun (sticky) crafty project that you could do with your kids or grandkids. It's also a great way to repurpose toilet paper rolls rather than throwing them away! </span></p><p><span style="color: #2b00fe; font-family: arial;">Here's a short <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1UZnxtf3XhI" target="_blank">video </a>on how to do it.</span></p><p><span style="color: #2b00fe; font-family: arial;">We love the birds!</span></p><p><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiOH856rAptCR3WkzwSWVeuwZmf1hVOUB6eUuM8BnzMKs41sNeVSBjTLz2MvBh2zJl2j5GzSbRnFMPFdpD5-DKnhjSNycT0cL_k9-dBZ7201gVOYSVcj8lydL5mkdU1GjzN2u8fuOZ3xgbKt8x5632eefBbdmQAUIZ9fDr8b3pv29ubkIwPj2bsjxM-ow/s4032/IMG_3599.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="4032" data-original-width="3024" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiOH856rAptCR3WkzwSWVeuwZmf1hVOUB6eUuM8BnzMKs41sNeVSBjTLz2MvBh2zJl2j5GzSbRnFMPFdpD5-DKnhjSNycT0cL_k9-dBZ7201gVOYSVcj8lydL5mkdU1GjzN2u8fuOZ3xgbKt8x5632eefBbdmQAUIZ9fDr8b3pv29ubkIwPj2bsjxM-ow/s320/IMG_3599.jpg" width="240" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><span style="color: #2b00fe; font-family: arial;"><b>Homemade bird feeders</b></span></td></tr></tbody></table><br /></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjdv5OlLYXWl6J_QYMUQBME_iti816VQSCawgWrEncTrfjSbLzWBDjwy2Iqgc36rjAIKIAe3U_3e_A-0QQPxu90Ra3qCZy-XYuEe1Iv6NMSF3scj9vxc4X7qp82wDCVm92KZaGTB17szNFAXgcR1heIYugH87oxIIIuazOyAZNUEXMbdyP2o50OZuJG7w/s4032/IMG_3601.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="4032" data-original-width="3024" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjdv5OlLYXWl6J_QYMUQBME_iti816VQSCawgWrEncTrfjSbLzWBDjwy2Iqgc36rjAIKIAe3U_3e_A-0QQPxu90Ra3qCZy-XYuEe1Iv6NMSF3scj9vxc4X7qp82wDCVm92KZaGTB17szNFAXgcR1heIYugH87oxIIIuazOyAZNUEXMbdyP2o50OZuJG7w/s320/IMG_3601.jpg" width="240" /></a></div><br /><span style="color: #2b00fe; font-family: arial;">As you can see from the photos, we already have several bird (and/or squirrel) feeders in the yard. Well, I have some ideas on that.</span></p><p><span style="color: #2b00fe; font-family: arial;">Scrap quilts go way back to the beginning of quilting when pioneer women cut up old worn-out clothing and used them in quilts.Today, quilters tend to use a scrap bucket, bin, tub, etc., to throw scraps into for later use. </span></p><p><span style="color: #2b00fe; font-family: arial;">Before I moved into my new house, I had an old laundry basket chock full of scraps! I donated a lot of fabric to a quilt charity and they also wanted all my scraps! I handed over the whole laundry basket and now I'm starting my scrap bucket all over again.</span></p><p><span style="color: #2b00fe; font-family: arial;">But seriously, scrap quilts are a great way to save money and make some quick and amazing quilts! I will use bits of fabric as small as an inch. Some of the larger scraps, I'll cut up into smaller pieces, depending on what I'm making. </span></p><p><span style="color: #2b00fe; font-family: arial;">If you applique, you may end up with some really oddly shaped scraps (I know I do!), but not to worry, those can be cut down and used in scrap quilts. I have found that scraps work really well in my quilted landscape wallhangings. So, don't throw away your scraps!</span></p><p><span style="color: #2b00fe; font-family: arial;">String quilts are a form of scrap quilt and I LOVE making string quilts! It's a great way to use up any size of scrap fabric. I've even made string blocks and incorporated them into other quilts, which gives the quilts a whole new dimension. </span></p><p><span style="color: #2b00fe; font-family: arial;">I like using a muslin backing </span><span style="color: #2b00fe; font-family: arial;">for string blocks</span><span style="color: #2b00fe; font-family: arial;">, mainly because I tend to buy muslin by the bolt, but you can use any fabric. You can also use newspapers, phone book pages, used dryer sheets, copy paper, wax paper, and even old bed sheets for backing. Basically, whatever you have handy. String borders are also super cute on quilts.</span></p><p><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj18y_HI3iFH9YC06D3_T36CdqtA5jS3nV86Yt6Jt2GS0Ot0ZMa-inUptP6JwtTRlCJDsGvhjsmOQHCETz18Z65L35LSPL2WZHNKbW3vG5oosLoR3BiOjRMwJddfAyRVjH9sDCLxkmViG5a4nTUUBFwY_aDK2_gGL6E0Vprr3KvrCCNkMAEnU7d2czZxA/s3375/string%20blocks.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2632" data-original-width="3375" height="250" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj18y_HI3iFH9YC06D3_T36CdqtA5jS3nV86Yt6Jt2GS0Ot0ZMa-inUptP6JwtTRlCJDsGvhjsmOQHCETz18Z65L35LSPL2WZHNKbW3vG5oosLoR3BiOjRMwJddfAyRVjH9sDCLxkmViG5a4nTUUBFwY_aDK2_gGL6E0Vprr3KvrCCNkMAEnU7d2czZxA/s320/string%20blocks.jpg" width="320" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><span style="color: #2b00fe; font-family: arial;"><b>Some string blocks I made for a quilt swap</b></span></td></tr></tbody></table><br /><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiOASSPz5VK9rbt14j-DdF31E2ZYxSAIl5ewGYzz7D0WC_VQCKJUckINSfn9XvlqWB1FUFrsE67xiKsM7nbW2siDP71XIrxFJZyvJDOKsU39BXsjkLxdVlITiJ1K_WUCFv5mQdK4B0KRvZ_cXEjmFL3rPoWDyICDPSHFMcwNkmizsRwWgjtXKJfTIl5Vw/s720/string%20quilt.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="540" data-original-width="720" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiOASSPz5VK9rbt14j-DdF31E2ZYxSAIl5ewGYzz7D0WC_VQCKJUckINSfn9XvlqWB1FUFrsE67xiKsM7nbW2siDP71XIrxFJZyvJDOKsU39BXsjkLxdVlITiJ1K_WUCFv5mQdK4B0KRvZ_cXEjmFL3rPoWDyICDPSHFMcwNkmizsRwWgjtXKJfTIl5Vw/s320/string%20quilt.jpg" width="320" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><span style="color: #2b00fe; font-family: arial;"><b>String quilt I mad</b></span><span style="color: #2b00fe; font-family: arial;"><b>e</b></span></td></tr></tbody></table><span style="color: #2b00fe; font-family: arial;">One nice thing about string quilts is there is an extra layer of fabric in there for warmth. We won't get cooler temps until sometime in October and I always look forward to the coolness of fall. This summer has been so very long and hot and I'm so ready for it to be over!</span></p><p><span style="color: #2b00fe; font-family: arial;">Today, I wanted to discuss quilt patterns and how to source them, if you use them. Some people like to make up their own quilt patterns for unique one-of-a-kind quilts, and I've done that before too. But if you do use quilt patterns, where do you primarily get them from? Do you buy them in quilt shops, on Amazon, or get them for free online or on YouTube? Please comment and let me know where you get your patterns. Inquiring minds want to know.</span></p><p><span style="color: #2b00fe; font-family: arial;">I've bought quilt patterns and have actually used a couple but many of them sit sadly neglected on a shelf in my sewing room. I've often thought that I should sell them since I don't use them but you just never know!</span></p><p><span style="color: #2b00fe; font-family: arial;">Years ago, when my oldest daughter graduated college, I bought the Yellow Brick Road quilt pattern and made her that quilt. I will confess that I probably didn't follow the pattern exactly but I think it turned out great. </span></p><p><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh2Mpq0XMtPGsB-mW3-Yh7-5ZN2HJWnzWvr9DFxapcZsNS5_8dcqe7mbghHoApfzp9c_YpFYoMo-8YmgFQN81WILfpRZ4GR1cTeZfMM3mR9QAkerquCzldt2CJhcb8Pg-xTXzrPbgMG5gWrVFvoM9eEyUE6CLY1BVsCH1iteLO-339MSGfGhn4B_NlOkg/s720/Yellow%20brick%20road%202.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="540" data-original-width="720" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh2Mpq0XMtPGsB-mW3-Yh7-5ZN2HJWnzWvr9DFxapcZsNS5_8dcqe7mbghHoApfzp9c_YpFYoMo-8YmgFQN81WILfpRZ4GR1cTeZfMM3mR9QAkerquCzldt2CJhcb8Pg-xTXzrPbgMG5gWrVFvoM9eEyUE6CLY1BVsCH1iteLO-339MSGfGhn4B_NlOkg/s320/Yellow%20brick%20road%202.jpg" width="320" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><b><span style="color: #2b00fe; font-family: arial;">Yellow Brick Road Quilt I made for my daughter</span></b></td></tr></tbody></table></p><p><span style="color: #2b00fe; font-family: arial;">I have also watched YouTube and gotten pattern ideas from there. The cost of everything is going up and fabric, in particular, is up to over $14/yard (if you buy it new)! So, you have this quilting hobby that was expensive, to begin with, and is just getting more expensive, how do you cut costs so you can keep quilting? </span></p><p><span style="color: #2b00fe; font-family: arial;">Here are some of my tips.</span></p><p><span style="color: #2b00fe; font-family: arial;"><b>Tip #1:</b></span></p><p><span style="color: #2b00fe; font-family: arial;">Well, first of all, and it's rather obvious to me, is to find fabric on sale. Physical stores and online stores <i>always </i>have a clearance section, so go there first to see if you can find anything (I always do!).</span></p><p><span style="color: #2b00fe; font-family: arial;"><b>Tip #2:</b></span></p><p><span style="color: #2b00fe; font-family: arial;">Thrift stores are a wonderful, inexpensive source for fabric. Think men's XL or XXL shirts, long cotton nightgowns, formal dresses, cotton sheets, and even some blankets (like baby blankets). These are great for fabric yardage! </span></p><p><span style="color: #2b00fe; font-family: arial;">I have a camping quilt I made years ago and the back is from an old soft cotton twin-size sheet. I still use that quilt on my bed and it just gets softer the more I wash it.</span></p><p><span style="color: #2b00fe; font-family: arial;"><b>Tip #3:</b></span></p><p><span style="color: #2b00fe; font-family: arial;">Use social media. Facebook, for example, has swap groups and a marketplace where you can swap or buy fabric and quilting supplies. I've seen some great sewing machines on the marketplace selling for low prices.</span></p><p><b style="color: #2b00fe; font-family: arial;">Tip #4:</b></p><p><span style="color: #2b00fe; font-family: arial;">Estate sales. Sadly, quilters do pass on to the great sewing room in the sky and their families often sell all of their fabric and quilting supplies in estate or garage sales. You can pick up items super cheap this way. I've even had people gift me fabric when a beloved quilter passes on.</span></p><p><span style="color: #2b00fe; font-family: arial;"><b>Tip #5:</b></span></p><p><span style="color: #2b00fe; font-family: arial;">Ask your family and friends if they have items from, let's say spring cleaning or moving, they want to get rid of and take them off their hands. Again, think sheets, blankets, clothing, even some curtains! Make t-shirt quilts from old t-shirts. </span></p><p><span style="color: #2b00fe; font-family: arial;">I had a friend who gave me all of her son's baby clothes and blankets and wanted a quilt made from them. I used only what she gave me with no other fabrics added.</span></p><p><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgUIYlI_chcTc5arXOOK2Qw6uRTxt44V9YNXGd0Ru9262fF_Mg5_L5-seZWQJGPk1RksVj7w3CjWjA0eN7krMNMoTH6eAEBqfPhaicv5CHgduwGs7XW3yWs492m_MlD1vnsF62Oc_zmVXSbT41ZvmRZWl6cexvPHit-PVzdyuiVAppqajSIIipqPMAukA/s3024/quilt.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2712" data-original-width="3024" height="287" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgUIYlI_chcTc5arXOOK2Qw6uRTxt44V9YNXGd0Ru9262fF_Mg5_L5-seZWQJGPk1RksVj7w3CjWjA0eN7krMNMoTH6eAEBqfPhaicv5CHgduwGs7XW3yWs492m_MlD1vnsF62Oc_zmVXSbT41ZvmRZWl6cexvPHit-PVzdyuiVAppqajSIIipqPMAukA/s320/quilt.jpg" width="320" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><b><span style="color: #2b00fe; font-family: arial;">The quilt I made from baby clothes and blankets</span></b></td></tr></tbody></table></p><p><span style="color: #2b00fe; font-family: arial;"><b>Tip #5:</b></span></p><p><span style="color: #2b00fe; font-family: arial;">Clean out your closet! (<i>Yes, mom</i>). Go through your own closet (or your husband's and kid's closets) and look for old dresses, shirts, pajamas, nightgowns, and pants, and cut them up for fabric. I have even been known to buy shirts because I loved the fabric and knew that one day it would go into a quilt.</span></p><p><span style="color: #2b00fe; font-family: arial;">You have to think outside the "fabric box" to save money on fabric and quilt supplies. And no one needs to know that you cut up an old nightgown to save money on fabric. After all, quilting originally started in this country with <a href="https://www.quilting-in-america.com/History-of-Quilts.html" target="_blank">pioneer women</a> cutting up old worn-out clothing to make quilts.</span></p><p><span style="color: #2b00fe; font-family: arial;">Those are my tips, please comment if you have any other tips to </span><span style="color: #2b00fe; font-family: arial;">start getting thrifty with your quilting hobby in this world of rising prices.</span></p><p><span style="color: #2b00fe; font-family: arial;">Here are some other great articles on thrifty quilting:</span></p><p><span style="color: #2b00fe; font-family: arial;"><a href="https://hobbiesonabudget.com/save-money-when-quilting/#:~:text=Save%20money%20when%20quilting%201%20Have%20A%20Good,Family%20...%204%20Online%20...%205%20Groups%20" target="_blank">Hobbies on a budget</a></span></p><p><span style="color: #2b00fe; font-family: arial;"><a href="https://premeditatedleftovers.com/naturally-frugal-living/save-money-fabric-quilting-materials/" target="_blank">Premeditated Leftovers</a></span></p><p><a href="http://www.raspberryspool.com/how-to-save-money-quilting-and-keep-on-quilting/" target="_blank"><span style="color: #2b00fe; font-family: arial;">R</span><span style="color: #2b00fe; font-family: arial;">aspberry Spool</span></a></p><p><span style="color: #2b00fe; font-family: arial;"><i><b>Happy Quilting and Sewing!</b></i></span></p><div class="blogger-post-footer"><iframe src="http://rcm.amazon.com/e/cm?t=quiltsquil-20&o=1&p=40&l=ur1&category=beauty&banner=0JP0SDGGHNKE22KJ1P82&f=ifr" width="120" height="60" scrolling="no" border="0" marginwidth="0" style="border:none;" frameborder="0"></iframe></div>Susan Lozanohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03614822081664990971noreply@blogger.com0Texas, USA31.9685988 -99.90181313.6583649638211533 -135.0580631 60.278832636178848 -64.7455631tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9169978046655784101.post-10166664545225132832022-09-15T15:29:00.000-07:002022-09-15T15:29:20.447-07:00Quilt Shows<p> <span style="color: #2b00fe; font-family: arial;">Happy Thursday (or Friday Eve)!</span></p><p><span style="color: #2b00fe; font-family: arial;">Do you attend quilt shows? Do you prefer looking at the quilts or shopping the vendors for fun new quilting stuff? </span></p><p><span style="color: #2b00fe; font-family: arial;">I love a good quilt show for many reasons and especially for looking at the beautiful quilts and getting inspired. Also, I love to shop the vendors! I always find new and different things that I must purchase (even if my wallet does not agree). I was disappointed in 2020 (weren't we all!) because all the quilt shows were canceled and then in 2021 some of the quilt shows came back but not all of them. But this year, I think most of the quilt shows are back! </span></p><p><span style="color: #2b00fe; font-family: arial;">Here are national and international quilt show schedules for the rest of </span><a href="https://ronatheribbiter.com/2022-quilt-shows/" style="font-family: arial;" target="_blank">2022 </a><span style="color: #2b00fe; font-family: arial;">and </span><a href="https://ronatheribbiter.com/2023-quilt-shows/" style="font-family: arial;" target="_blank">2023</a><span style="color: #2b00fe; font-family: arial;">.</span></p><p><span style="color: #2b00fe; font-family: arial;">I attended the <a href="https://www.qgplano.org/gallery/2022-photos/26817-2/">Plano Quilt Show</a> in August and had such a great time. I have some friends that I only see at quilt shows, so I hadn't seen some of them for a couple of years and it was great to catch up and even make a few new friends too. My quilt show friend, Judy Beskow, won several ribbons at the show, including the Viewer's Choice award. I am always in awe of her quilts and she inspires me to do better. </span></p><p><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhi0X0YiQ-W7ZlVwAUnY_s25WOdL8spGMxfF83uj2ey0er8-u9sXThZAre8vagv-h9_Yx3PDBvHeZgG5mkApPXVAaK1wBf3TLu7RgsVuMZOFOY_ShM9OuOcWIkvAQfr7Ld66E5jGBIjkUfOO_bFl4658N5RrTVkbKoxSMc63yY4aXJX7TwXBXdlHuZkzg/s2620/IMG_4781.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2620" data-original-width="2531" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhi0X0YiQ-W7ZlVwAUnY_s25WOdL8spGMxfF83uj2ey0er8-u9sXThZAre8vagv-h9_Yx3PDBvHeZgG5mkApPXVAaK1wBf3TLu7RgsVuMZOFOY_ShM9OuOcWIkvAQfr7Ld66E5jGBIjkUfOO_bFl4658N5RrTVkbKoxSMc63yY4aXJX7TwXBXdlHuZkzg/s320/IMG_4781.jpg" width="309" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><span style="color: #2b00fe; font-family: arial;"><b>Judy Beskow with her amazing quilt and ribbons</b></span></td></tr></tbody></table><br /><span style="color: #2b00fe; font-family: arial;">I plan on going to more quilt shows, as work and time permit, to get extra inspired. When I was walking around the Plano Quilt Show, I was thinking about all of the thousands and thousands of hours those quilters put into their work and it just astounds me. So much time, passion, and not to mention expense! No, quilting is not an inexpensive endeavor. Next time, I will discuss ways to make quilting more affordable.</span></p><p><span style="color: #2b00fe; font-family: arial;">Happy Quilting and Sewing!</span><span style="color: #2b00fe; font-family: arial;"><br /></span></p><div class="blogger-post-footer"><iframe src="http://rcm.amazon.com/e/cm?t=quiltsquil-20&o=1&p=40&l=ur1&category=beauty&banner=0JP0SDGGHNKE22KJ1P82&f=ifr" width="120" height="60" scrolling="no" border="0" marginwidth="0" style="border:none;" frameborder="0"></iframe></div>Susan Lozanohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03614822081664990971noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9169978046655784101.post-59814176580740812662022-09-12T07:52:00.001-07:002022-09-12T07:52:33.481-07:00National Sewing Month<p><span style="color: #2b00fe; font-family: arial;">Hey there!</span></p><p><span style="color: #2b00fe; font-family: arial;">Did you know that September is <b>National Sewing Month</b>? I worked on organizing and unpacking my sewing room this weekend...still not finished...but made some good headway. You don't realize just how much fabric you own until you start digging into it, at least I don't. And fabric is heavy! I moved fabric around this weekend until I was sore. I am anxious to get everything sorted and organized because Christmas is coming fast! In truth, I should have started any sewing projects for Christmas months ago, but somehow it always sneaks up on me. Work has been very busy these past few months and based on a call I had this morning, it's not going to slow down anytime soon. We'll just call that job security! :)</span></p><p><span style="color: #2b00fe; font-family: arial;">I did do a lot of embroidery this weekend in an effort to finish a larger piece I've been working on for the past few months. I'll admit that I'm a bit of an embroidery kit hoarder and have several (okay, a lot) other embroidery kits that I'm anxious to get started. </span></p><p><span style="color: #2b00fe; font-family: arial;">I have a plumber coming out to look at the shower in my master bathroom, which started leaking this weekend. I love my plumber but talk about an expensive unexpected expense! Homeownership definitely has its advantages, but the maintenance costs have gone up so much in the past couple of years as has everything else.</span></p><p><span style="color: #2b00fe; font-family: arial;">That's it for now. I wish you a beautiful day of sewing or embroidery! It's starting to almost feel like fall. It's still in the 90s in Texas and I'm looking forward to October when we will actually get cooler daytime temperatures. But until then, we enjoy the cooler evenings.</span></p><p><span style="color: #2b00fe; font-family: arial;">Happy Quilting and Sewing!</span></p><div class="blogger-post-footer"><iframe src="http://rcm.amazon.com/e/cm?t=quiltsquil-20&o=1&p=40&l=ur1&category=beauty&banner=0JP0SDGGHNKE22KJ1P82&f=ifr" width="120" height="60" scrolling="no" border="0" marginwidth="0" style="border:none;" frameborder="0"></iframe></div>Susan Lozanohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03614822081664990971noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9169978046655784101.post-22116450868391254572022-09-09T11:13:00.000-07:002022-09-09T11:13:34.178-07:00RIP Queen Elizabeth<p><span style="color: #2b00fe; font-family: arial;">Yesterday was a hard day with the news of the death of Queen Elizabeth II. She's gone to the great Palace in the sky to be with Philip. I'm not British but I do have British, Irish, and Scottish ancestry and have followed the Royals for as long as I can remember. I've been to Buckingham Palace and seen the Queen's Guards, the Tower, and London Bridge. My heart goes out to all British subjects who now transition to a new Monarchy under King Charles and his Queen Consort, Camilla.</span></p><p><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjHs3EywMHdsjILSb-AcApbJoG0QO7ap4KPvQxWauepvpKXDPCQJhjXmPM09diJc4GdpPP5iEEOT04ODLNrOU4BYfHBGUyM_yIZhaAyrrkhei4h2OTewhenAf_K9l-l3WJQ8Asxy85NZdn-TsiEDlvcjxhJtXzbhva_MmNpX6PleKi1tP4McjE6HETgSw/s595/2022-09-09_12-07-37.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="335" data-original-width="595" height="180" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjHs3EywMHdsjILSb-AcApbJoG0QO7ap4KPvQxWauepvpKXDPCQJhjXmPM09diJc4GdpPP5iEEOT04ODLNrOU4BYfHBGUyM_yIZhaAyrrkhei4h2OTewhenAf_K9l-l3WJQ8Asxy85NZdn-TsiEDlvcjxhJtXzbhva_MmNpX6PleKi1tP4McjE6HETgSw/s320/2022-09-09_12-07-37.jpg" width="320" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><span style="color: #2b00fe; font-family: arial;"><b>Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II</b></span></td></tr></tbody></table><br /><span style="color: #2b00fe; font-family: arial;">I have been searching online for a freehand embroidery pattern of the Queen and cannot find one, so if you know where I can find one, please let me know. I have been a customer of Jenny's for years and she is so sweet! She runs a great little company where you can purchase embroidery thread (which I love), patterns, and tools. Her patterns are contemporary and modern (not your grandma's) which is an exciting change from some of the older patterns out there. So shout out to Jenny!</span></p><p><span style="color: #2b00fe; font-family: arial;">My daughter-in-law came over for a visit last night. It's always wonderful to see her and I honestly don't see her enough. She is the mom of my 2 beautiful granddaughters (growing up way too fast), who I had over last weekend. We baked a cake and cookies and made a huge amount of buttercream frosting, which ended up all over the kitchen, but we had so much fun.</span></p><p><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhI2bDJ6msonx6AQ4Pv6jI9UGueGpizMLgcG7lS2vzP0ZUkHv1ACKS-UHYDeSwldSNPgRiOf1hgufTtOiSkRmIHeJjJVJZUFjNENKXrGKeUDIy7QIM9wGNQcGHTiQxczZsN8OhwjqeUZfETQjTDDiOcm6bbsMeiQQCwTuqj_2ggd3Eh6Ic-BTaBSsvRYg/s1800/298370699_5794538177234367_8885299674336909382_n.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1800" data-original-width="1440" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhI2bDJ6msonx6AQ4Pv6jI9UGueGpizMLgcG7lS2vzP0ZUkHv1ACKS-UHYDeSwldSNPgRiOf1hgufTtOiSkRmIHeJjJVJZUFjNENKXrGKeUDIy7QIM9wGNQcGHTiQxczZsN8OhwjqeUZfETQjTDDiOcm6bbsMeiQQCwTuqj_2ggd3Eh6Ic-BTaBSsvRYg/s320/298370699_5794538177234367_8885299674336909382_n.jpg" width="256" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><span style="color: #2b00fe; font-family: arial;"><b>Mia</b></span></td></tr></tbody></table><br /><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiNnKbDfCLRFk_o0pv0D7V-Ronpbg574ds8g-83-OhASDnpHL2Tu5HG54WSfiZrEK96mQaFpXMchN4zFV1oiLdEabcwXGp20Vx1Uyes6kwjFA-6RlIvt4-kLaZNYaDRgUxc04rKQcYVXSr7w3vzUuJQMCkT-ON72D3xRvMGoOqYzshcsA_Mh_KI0Tzwvw/s1800/299998850_5821775907843927_7031172194076367303_n.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1800" data-original-width="1440" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiNnKbDfCLRFk_o0pv0D7V-Ronpbg574ds8g-83-OhASDnpHL2Tu5HG54WSfiZrEK96mQaFpXMchN4zFV1oiLdEabcwXGp20Vx1Uyes6kwjFA-6RlIvt4-kLaZNYaDRgUxc04rKQcYVXSr7w3vzUuJQMCkT-ON72D3xRvMGoOqYzshcsA_Mh_KI0Tzwvw/s320/299998850_5821775907843927_7031172194076367303_n.jpg" width="256" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><span style="color: #2b00fe; font-family: arial;"><b>Leylia</b></span></td></tr></tbody></table><br /><span style="color: #2b00fe; font-family: arial;">That's it for today. Not far from where I used to live, but I sold my house and bought another one that I like so much better. Seems like I always have something on the sewing table...usually more than one something! Sometimes it's a new project, sometimes it's a UFO...more often than not it's a UFO (a.k.a.,unfinished project)! I hate to admit it, but my unfinished projects are numerous, and one day... in a galaxy far, far away...I will finish them all! HA! </span><br />
<span style="color: blue; font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="color: blue; font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">So, despite all of the unfinished projects, I have a new project on my sewing table this week. In my last post I mentioned it..."a wall hanging kit I bought way back in 2003, and it is a garden scene." I have been sewing all of the squares together for the "back" of the scene, and once that is completed, I can begin the fun part of appliqueing all of the decorative items to it...tree, leaves, flowers, etc. As I mentioned in my last post, I am pretty excited about this project, which is a good thing, since I don't get too excited about much lately (except my grandchildren). </span><br />
<span style="color: blue; font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="color: blue; font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">I was mentioning this project to a friend of mine and she said, "That's great!", and then asked, "Do you have a place to hang it?". Uh...are you <i>supposed </i>to have a place to hang wall hangings <i>before </i>you make them??!! Hmm...I had not considered that! Thoughts? Should you make something you like and then figure out what to do with it, or just make it and worry about it later? I guess I am so used to giving most everything I make away, that it just never even occurred to me that I have absolutely no where to hang a large wall hanging! Oh well...all of my problems should be so small!</span><br />
<span style="color: blue; font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="color: blue; font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">So, what's on your sewing table? Anything exciting? Here is a photo of what's on my sewing table!</span><br />

But in my defense, I've been a little busy with the arrival of 2 new grand babies in January...2 days apart! Yes, you heard <i>correctly</i>...they were born just 2 days apart. I have a handsome grandson and another beautiful granddaughter, and couldn't be more thrilled. Our little Lily is thrilled to have a baby sister too. Hahaha...after Miabella was born, all Lily could say is "She came out!" She is such a cutie, and already 4-1/2 years old!</span><br />

And since their arrival, I have been busy being Nana! The babies have been great for me, and have given me added motivation to sew and quilt again. It's been tough since hubby passed away just over 2 years ago (and it seems like yesterday), so having all of our children and grandchildren nearby has been such a blessing. This is my New Life! :)</span><br />
<br />
<span style="color: blue; font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">Springtime has sprung! And of course, that is added motivation to bring out the bright pretty fabric to work with! The project on my work table right now is a wall hanging kit I bought way back in 2003 (I know what you are thinking!) and it is a garden scene. I was pretty excited when I bought it, and during re-organization of my sewing room a few weeks ago, I ran across it and got excited all over again! So, I actually started on it! I promise photos will be coming!</span><br />
<span style="color: blue; font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="color: blue; font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">I did manage to finish a small farm scene wall hanging to send to my mother...now if I could just manage to get down to the post office to send it off...! I used Karen Eckmeier's (<a href="http://www.kareneckmeier.com/">http://www.kareneckmeier.com/</a>) applique technique for it, which is one I just love! Mom grew up on a farm and loves farm scenes, so I thought it would be cute hanging on her wall...when I actually send it!</span><br />

I did not realize how long it's been since my last post! My apologies...I have been a little busier than I thought!</span><br />
<span style="color: blue; font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="color: blue; font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">It is finally cooling off here in Texas...woohoo! I really do enjoy quilting in cooler weather. The summers can be pretty toasty here, so piecing together tops is a better summer activity and quilting is better for winter.</span><br />
<span style="color: blue; font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="color: blue; font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">Grand babies are T minus 2 months now...Due in January! The baby sewing is in full swing at my house. My daughter's baby shower is this Saturday and I am not finished sewing everything! My weekend was marathon sewing and quilting, and it looks like my evenings will be the same thing all week. Then next month is my daughter in law's baby shower...yikes! I had better push my needle speed to full speed!! </span><br />

<span style="color: blue; font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">I finished the one baby quilt I was working on (see photos), and decided to keep that one for my house. Since it was sort of a "practice" quilt after many months of not quilting, it is rather special to me now. But not to worry, I am finishing up the baby quilt for my daughter...she actually sewed the top together, under my instruction, and did a very nice job! Now if I can just finish the binding by Saturday...! The quilting came out very nicely on it...photos will be posted soon, I promise. </span><br />
<span style="color: blue; font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="color: blue; font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">For my daughter in law, there is a quilt in progress. It's kind of a surprise, so I can't go into much detail right now. She is having a girl, so any guesses as to the color? :) I will divulge that I am using one of my favorite blocks...the Snowball block...in the quilt! Making Snowball blocks makes me really happy...as crazy as that might sound! If you have never made Snowball blocks, try it and see if they make you happy too. They are super easy and make such a nice design when put together. Here is a quick online tutorial</span><span style="color: purple;"><span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"> </span><a href="http://www.straw.com/quilting/articles/snowball1.html">http://www.straw.com/quilting/articles/snowball1.html</a>.</span><br />

What do you get out of quilting? Quilting is certainly not an inexpensive hobby...at least not anymore. So why do you quilt? </span><br />
<span style="color: blue; font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="color: blue; font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">I was thinking back to the reasons why I started quilting, and there were several, but mainly relaxation. Yes, quilting, with all of its frustrations, is very relaxing to me and great therapy! My aunt was a fiber artist for most of her life, and she was a very gentle and relaxed soul. I believe it was because she worked with textiles and took great comfort in the feel of fabric. Have I mentioned lately that I love fabric?! :) </span><br />
<span style="color: blue; font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="color: blue; font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">Since I started quilting again after my husband's death, I am finding that relaxation factor, but it is also quite energizing. It gets my mind going and I start designing quilts in my head. I get a feeling of accomplishment and the sense that I am doing something positive in my life. Even just sewing something as simple as a baby burp cloth gives me great satisfaction and relaxation. Most of us work at jobs that, well let's face it, are not terribly exciting, so having a hobby that is fulfilling and relaxing at the same time is priceless. And, as I have discussed here before, quilting and sewing can be as expensive or inexpensive as you want it to be, because you can recycle/re-purpose fabric from old clothes, sheets, blankets and a variety of things. Buying quilt fabric from a quilt shop is a lot of fun...but that's where quilting and sewing gets expensive. Shopping for fabric yardage at a thrift store is fun and challenging...not to mention more cost effective and "green". So, why do you quilt?</span><br />
<span style="color: blue; font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<br />
<h3>
<span style="color: red; font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><b><i>And now for a change of subject...Embroidery</i></b></span></h3>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><span style="color: blue;">I'm so excited! I ordered some embroidery transfer patterns from one of my favorite quilt sites </span><a href="http://www.sublimestitching.com/"><span style="color: purple;">http://www.sublimestitching.com/</span></a><span style="color: blue;"> and got them in the mail yesterday! They were having a 1/2 off embroidery pattern sale, so I took full advantage! Here is a pic of what I got!</span></span><br />

<i><span style="color: red;"><span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">B</span><span style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">aby Quilt</span></span></i></h4>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><span style="color: blue;">I am making progress on the baby quilt...the quilting is nearly finished and I can't wait to start on the binding! I am posting photos, so you can see the back and binding fabric I chose for this quilt. The back is a black polka dot print...and normally I wouldn't use a black back for a baby quilt, but for this quilt I challenged myself to use fabric, thread and batting that I already have and buy nothing new. So far, so good! This quilt is all from my stash! I believe I will be able to finish it without having to buy anything for it. BTW...my stash got smaller when I moved, but my sewing room is still too full! Oh...and also, I had a piece of Fusi Boo batting (</span><a href="http://www.fairfieldworld.com/product/51"><span style="color: purple;">http://www.fairfieldworld.com/product/51</span></a><span style="color: blue;">) large enough for the quilt, so I saved myself a lot of baste pinning and time!</span></span><br />

<span style="color: blue; font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">Okay everyone...the Gender Reveal party for my upcoming grandbabies was Friday night and...It's a Boy...and a Girl! That's right, one of each...the best of both worlds! My daughter and her husband are expecting a boy and my stepson and his wife (parents of my granddaughter) are expecting another baby girl. Very exciting! So, now that we know the genders of both little ones, that means it's fabric shopping time!! :) We had a great time at the party...check out the photos!</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;"><br /><span style="color: blue;"></span></span><span style="color: blue; font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">Today I tested the burp cloth pattern that I posted the link for last week </span><a href="http://homemadebyjill.blogspot.com/2008/01/burp-cloth-tutorial.html"><span style="color: blue; font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">http://homemadebyjill.blogspot.com/2008/01/burp-cloth-tutorial.html</span></a><span style="color: blue; font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">. I thought they turned out really great, but here are the photos, so judge for yourself. They were fairly simple to make, however, I did figure out that I really need to get my scissors sharpened! They are dull, dull, dull and cutting flannel with dull scissors wasn't much fun at all! I am also so used to using my rotary cutter to cut fabric, that going back to scissor cutting was a bit tedious. That being said, each burp cloth took only about 10 minutes or so to cut out and sew up...then I just had to cut around the edges and throw in the washer for that frayed edge look. I made a blue one and a lavender/pink one...in honor of my upcoming new grandson and granddaughter! I do believe I will make some more of these kinds of burp cloths, as well as the old standbys that I make using cloth diapers. It's nice to try something new!</span><br />
<br />
<span style="color: blue; font-family: Trebuchet MS;">Next weekend is a 3 day weekend for me, so I plan on getting some more sewing done. I am posting a a pic of the baby quilt top that I am working on. Perhaps I will get that finished next weekend! Oh, and I have a wedding to go to on Saturday! I bought the wedding gift yesterday, so I think I am set! </span><br />
<br />
<span style="color: blue; font-family: Trebuchet MS;">Lots to do this week...work...get a personal trainer...get my hair done...wedding...sewing...quilting!! What are you working on this week or over the 3 day weekend?? </span><br />
